Horse breeding has a significant place in Turkmen culture. The reputation of the precious Akhal-Teke horses has traveled across the continents. This facility was built to carry on one of the most precious traditional entities of Turkmenistan to the next generations at a unique facility that has very few counterparts around the world.
The Equestrian Sports Complex and Hippodrome Project was carried out with the aim of preserving the famous Turkmen Akhal-Teke horses which are believed to be the first tamed horse breed in the world, of maintaining these horses as purebreds and breeding healthier generations of horses in the future.
As a part of the project, a 1,800 meter sand track and a 2,000 meter turf track were built in order for the Akhal-Teke horses to race in a hippodrome at international standards. The complex also has top quality stables as well as a grandstand with a 5,000 seating capacity that is designed to provide the best view to the spectators, covered with a non-flammable membrane structure.
