Group Size: Min. 5 persons

Visit the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games which will take place in Ashgabat from September 17 till September 27, 2017.

Turkmenistan is the first in Central Asia to receive the right to host the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. This has caused a wide resonance in the world and has become a landmark event in the life of our country.

There will be 21 sports included in the Games which will offer unforgettable days of world class sporting competition. Ashgabat 2017 will welcome athletes from the National Olympic Committees of Asia and Oceania to participate in the Games.

The Ceremonies will be held at the newly built Ashgabat Olympic Stadium in a central area of the capital, ensuring easy access to all facilities of the complex.

Not only will the ceremonies themselves make an Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, but also the brand new, custom-built facilities themselves cost more than a lot of the Beijing Olympics facilities. In fitting with the rest of Ashgabat’s architecture, the multiple state-of-the-art stadiums and arenas, and even a monorail, are fitted out with glistening white marble.

As well as experiencing this spectacular world-class event, you will see other main attractions in Ashgabat entered into the Guinness Book of World Records, including Alem – the largest indoor Ferris Wheel, the Arch of Neutrality, the Monument to the Independence, the Wedding Palace, visit the UNESCO site of Nisa, Turkmenbashy mosque and the underground thermal swimming lake called Kow Ata.  You will also make a journey to the heart of the Karakum Desert to see the Flaming Gas Crater “Gates of Hell” in Darvaza and Erbent Nomadic village where you can enjoy seeing the local life in the desert - Turkmen yurts, dromedaries, tamdyr (mud oven) and many more.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Saturday 16th September, 2017

Early arrival in Ashgabat. Meet your local guide at Ashgabat International Airport and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation in “Grand Turkmen” 4* hotel. Full day driving tour of Ashgabat's main sites including Park and Monument of Independence, Arch of Neutrality, a 75m- high monument with a revolving golden statue of the first President Turkmenbashy.  Hit the viewing platform of the Arch of Neutrality to see the beautiful panorama of Ashgabat. Tour to Alem - the largest indoor Ferris wheel, panoramic tour to the “Bagt Koshgi” (wedding palace) and “Yildiz” Hotel - one of the city's top five-star luxury hotel, conveniently located at the foothills of the Kopetdag, which also offers an excellent view of the city.

Continue tour of Ashgabat, visiting of Russian Bazaar and having lunch in the local restaurant near the bazaar. Lunch will cost around $5-10. After lunch visiting of Lenin Park and Ertogrul Ghazi Mosque.

Welcoming dinner in a traditional Turkmen house called “gara oy or yurt”.

Day 2 – Sunday 17th September, 2017

Today is the opening ceremony of the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. A breath-taking Olympic Village has been built in the centre of the city, which in fitting with the rest of Ashgabat's architecture is all fitted out with glistening white marble and gold trim. There are multiple state-of-the-art stadiums and arenas, and there's even a sparkling monorail to match. The complex itself has cost more to build than a lot of the Beijing Olympics facilities, not to mention the brand new airport that's been built especially for the occasion.

The Opening Ceremony itself is likely to be one of the most spectacular shows you'll ever see. The Turkmens really know how to put on a grand mass concert, just ask anyone's who's been to the Independence Day concert.

Day 3 – Monday 18th September 2017

We will spend today exploring the Olympic complex and visiting sporting events. You can choose one or two games events which you would like to attend from the attached competition schedule.

Day 4 – Tuesday 19th September 2017

Drive to Kipchak to see the resplendent Turkmenbashy Mosque, where Turkmenbashy is buried beside his mother, father and two brothers in their white marble mausoleum. Continue on to Kow Ata. This natural underground thermal spring is said to have many medical attributes, but is also used by locals as a swimming hole and makes for a very fun and relaxing swim. Admission included. After a revitalising swim in the cave lake, we'll enjoy lunch at one of the shashlik restaurants just outside the entrance to the cave.

Day 5 – Wednesday 20th September 2017

Visit Anau on the eastern outskirts of Ashgabat and see the remains of Anau Medival Fortress and Sheikh Jemaladdin Mosque which was destroyed in the 1948 earthquake.

Drive by 4WD (270 km, 3 h) to Derveze across the Garagum desert. En route stop to visit Erbent Nomadic village where you can enjoy seeing the local life in the desert - Turkmen yurts, dromedaries, tamdyr (mud oven) and many others.  Continue driving to Derveze, arrive at site and explore the gas craters, first full of water, and second the sulfur - muddy. Leave the road and venture in the desert to see the flaming Gas Crater. Arrive at site. Watch the sunset over the flaming crater and experience dusk turn to dark at this breathtaking site.

You can either buy things at the bazaar the day before to cook over a camp fire or we can arrange a barbeque dinner for you (approximately $10 pp). Overnight in tents.
